Engaged- what next?

Woohoo, Congratulations!

Coming up is a very exciting time in your life, and it doesn’t have to be stressful- promise!

Weddings are of course one day, but it is also about everyday that leads up to the one big day. It is about enjoying every moment of planning, spending time creating something with the one you love, and then watching your family and friends enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Now you’re engaged there are a few things to do to get started on your journey, in this blog we will let you know what you should do to get your planning under way.

1. Decide a date

First up, pick your date. Are you going to chose a Saturday, Sunday or day in the week? Is it a popular date, such as a bank holiday? Or would you opt for a special date, such as your anniversary? Keep in mind that if you are going for a weekday your mum and dad friends may have trouble getting their little ones (if they're invited) out of school. You may also pay a premium for venues, food and photographers etc on key dates in the year such as bank holidays and wedding season.

2. Decide venue

Once you have got your date picked find a venue. Discuss with your partner whether you would both like a religious ceremony, or to get married in an approved venue. Do you want something rustic like a barn, or elegant such as a hotel or manor house. Your venue is a great way to set the tone for the day, and the theme too.

4. Book registrar / religious ceremony

Book your religious wedding ceremony or your registrar. Select the time of your wedding.

5. Find catering , DJ, photographer, videographer, flowers

Once you have booked your venue and date you can then start making arrangements for your food (if not included in the venue) your photographer, videographer and florist. Ask for recommendations for these, there are lots of bride groups on Facebook or just your family and friends. (For video we recommend Fizzy Jelly Films)

6. Send out save the dates

Your type of venue may have dictated the theme, or maybe you have ideas that go well with your personalities and the venue too. Your save the dates should give your VIPs a sneak preview of the wedding theme and style. We currently have some beautiful save the date wedding stationery in various themes (more to come!).

7. Ask your MOH, bridesmaid, best men and ushers for their support

Find your tribe and ask them! You might ask them with a funny wedding stationery card, or you may just invite them for dinner and ask. I'd also suggest you ask your MOH/best man to keep your hen do/ stag do a surprise, it is one less thing that you need to worry about and be involved in!

8. Buy your wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses and suits

This is exciting stuff, wedding dress shopping! Try on as many dresses as you can, even ones that you think you will hate. Take pictures (if you are allowed) and write down how you feel in the dresses. Take people you trust to give you honest opinions too!

9. Send Invites

Invite time! At Stories Like Ours we have wedding stationery and invites to match your save the date so you can keep a theme running through the whole day. It really does set the tone.

10. Props and final touches

As the day approaches spend time getting your table plan together, your props to set the theme, find any final touches that you will need and you are all set!
